Week 3 Blog Assignment: Setting Up Effective Online Learning Experiences

When setting up an online class for adult learners, one must get off to a positive start. One should make sure everything is completed before starting the class. Some of the most important steps are to focus on discussion forum, creating questions, managing the forum, and knowing the teachers role (Boettcher & Conrad, 2012). This is one of the most important part of presenting the course. This information allows the students to get a better understanding of what is expected in the classroom.

Students must have a clear understanding of what is expected of them in the class. Students should always have a holistic view of the class, in order to get off to a positive start. Students need to be able to plan ahead to accommodate their work and other personal responsibilities (Boettcher & Conrad, 2012).

Instructor must keep an open mind when dealing with adult learners. They must realize that issues and emergencies are going to come about and there will be a need for flexibility in various assignments. There should always be a time limit set for assignment, but should have allowances when emergencies that may arrive. Adult learners are usually taking online classes to accommodate their busy lives and will need to have some flexibility that can be addressed on a needed basis.

Week 1 Assignment 2 Blog Assignment: Online Learning Communities

 Online Learning Communities

The essential elements of online community building are as stated by Drs. Palloff and Pratt are the people, purpose and process (Laureate Education, 2012). The people would be students and teachers. The teacher is the facilitator that guide the students in the needed direction. Dr. Pratt stated that the teacher is looked at as the side guiding person, not as the main focus of the classroom (Laureate Education, 2012). The class is allow to share their thoughts and opinions in a constructive and respectful manner. This allows all students the chance to interact with each other in a community type environment.

 Online learning can be a positive force because it gives the student a chance to collect their thoughts and give clear and concise information to assist the entire class community. Students are able to share their thoughts that will identify differences and likes of the subject matter.

The online community can be sustained by allowing students to feel comfortable and valued as a contributor to the learning community. The student should feel this is a safe environment and treated with respect from his or her peers as well as the teacher.

Community building will allow students to share information from a diverse viewpoint. The diversity in the online community will allow student to develop a tool to improve student’s participation rate in the community of online learning.

Week 8 blog assignment

             The first blog I chose from my colleagues blog reading is Netiquette.xyz.com. This technology explains to the students the rules of using social media and the internet. I chose this technology because it is important that all students learn how to respect others in the areas of technology. They will understand what is appropriate and what should not be shared or discussed in their social interaction.

        This technology can be used in the classroom to assist students with communication skills in a conventional way. They will be able to discuss concerns, research and offer resources to benefit all diverse classroom students. The internet, as well as social media will give students the power to collaborate with many valuable resources and other issues to enhance their educational process.   

           The next technology is StudyStacks.com. StudyStacks are flash cards that are used to assist students with learning and remembering information. These cards can be used in a variety of subject areas. I chose this because this will be an inexpensive way to give students an alternate learning game that they can build on learning and sharing valuable information.  

   The game Studystack will be used to allow students to have a study buddy and communicate information in a group or one on one. This will be a low cost for students to obtain valuable information and assist with their memorization skills.

      The next technology I chose was Http://www.FilamentGames.com. This is a game based learning that students can learn to information to assist in varies subject areas. They can better understand math, social studies and other academic areas. This will be used to give students the ability to understand diversity and understand other students in a compassionate manner.

Mine craft is a game that is used by classroom teachers to allow students to build a world based on their thoughts of how the world appears to them.

This is a game that appear to appeal to students who may not be comfortable with verbal expressions. This allows the student to self-express his or her feelings.

This game will be used by students that may appear introverted and need a different form of communication to enhance their educational needs.

This game will allow students to apply their building skills that may lead to various educational journeys.

Jigsaw is a learning game that can be used to assist students with analyzing and solving problems in a group. The group will work together to present information to the class. The puzzle end result will present to the class the solution to the beginning problem.

The learning game will allow the students to get to know each other in a community way. It will serve as an icebreaker to get students motivated to want to participate in their classroom setting.

This interactive game will be used at the beginning of the class year and serve as an icebreaker to stimulate classroom interaction between all diverse students.

It will be used to allow students to find areas that they may be weak in and need to remediate themselves in obtaining their education goals.

This device will assist my classroom students with downloading information from a variety of subject’s areas to solidify their learning experience.

It can assist in the classroom the ability to learn computer programming language and how to better utilize online resource efforts.

This device assist with content learning, oppose to apps. This device is very reasonably priced and sold in bulk to schools all across the county. This device allows the student to hear and see text at the same time. This will be very beneficial to students that are hearing impaired. It will allow the student to highlight words and locate the definition.

Plickers will allow me to poll my class for free, without the need for student devices. Each student is given a card (a “paper clicker”), and the Android smartphone or tablet will be used to scan them to do instant checks-for-understanding, exit tickets, and impromptu polls. The data is automatically saved, student-by-student, at plickers.com. This will allow the students the ability to identify information in a non - threatening manner.

Podcast :The rationale for podcast is that it will simplify the subject matter. This will allow students to see and hear real life situations of the subject matter. This will be a great alternative to deliver research of the lesson content that may require remediation or extended support. As the instructor one would be able to add or revise additional material for the students to download or review. Some students are auditory learners and this will enhance their learning abilities.
